A Monstrous Experiment

So a couple days ago my brother was out and found a great deal on Monster energy drinks so when he got back the next day I saw what he had and had an idea, I've always wondered what kind of effects energy drinks actually have on the body so I bought one from him. Today was Monday and the hardest day to wake up for seminary and school so before we left I took my pulse and just mentally cataloged how I was feeling then started drinking the Monster.

Well after about five minutes or so I took my pulse again...WOW my heart was racing, probably because the most caffeine I've ever had was a small amount of a much less potent energy drink. Meaning by the time we got to seminary I had drunk half of the thing and was a little on edge, twitching and blinking more often than is normal, I had to get to French early but the whole class went by in a blur in which I think I got a question right, YES! Then came art which was mainly reviewing what we'll be doing this week but that wasn't very exciting so I just worked on my project while the teacher talked. Then came 3rd the most dreaded of classes, right in the middle of the day and Algebra the most boring subject they can teach, well it'd been about 3 1/2 hours since I'd finished the Monster so of course I started to crash. It all started with a yawn, the first one of the day and I knew where I was headed. I tried to stave it off but it was futile and only more exhausting. I soon found myself having to be involved in the discussion to stay awake. OH THE HUMANITY! Being involved in a math discussion, what had I become? A true Monster.

As soon as class was over I ran down the hall to lunch to find some sort of refuge among a more lively discussion of The Hills Have Eyes 2, how delightfully disturbing : ). But since recently I ran out of lunch money I can't buy food which normally wouldn't be a problem but now I had a Monster sitting in my stomach in more ways than one. Seth you see had just happened to forget to inform me of what happens a few hours after you drink an energy drink on an empty stomach. So throughout lunch and biology I found myself trying to stay awake AND not throw up at the same time, a difficult task. At least we did the baby food lab last week.
The long term affects on the youth of this generation will be blamed undeniably on these energy drinks that pump the body full of caffeine and sugar leading not only to diabetes but also make the heart weak and enlarged leading to horrible after affects like respiratory problems and heart disease. Not to mention all of the things we haven't found already. Needless to say I probably won't be buying another energy drink any time soon.

The Teachers Dog Ate My Homework

Seriously in biology we were assigned the task of gathering food labels from home to see what different basic elements we could identify. So after 20 Painstaking minutes of cutting pasting and labeling I went to school and proudly presented the finished product. The next day while awaiting the start of class a very large picture of two dogs showed up on the screen when everyone was settled the teacher stood up and began to explain," These are my two precious beagles, one thing you should know about beagles is they are completely ruled by their noses also they can eat anything and everything...Now about your homework yesterday well I got home and dropped my bag full of papers to grade at the bottom of the stairs and went up stairs, a little while later I came down ready to grade and found little pieces of colored paper strewn all over and there in the middle of it all was Rebel." as she now pointed to one of the dogs"this picture is here to show you how completely sweet and innocent my dogs really are, but since your papers were all destroyed...I gave you all A's." this was greeted by immediate applause and cheering of which I gladly joined in.

Serious Sensory Deprivation

Okay it's been about 11 months since my dad's been out of a job during which we've made a lot of changes one of which was moving from a rather large home (cough cough) to a nice COZY rustic cabin on the outskirts of Washougal we are right against the river with quite the forest surrounding on all sides beautiful in every way except the fact that they block out any signal from satellites trying to get to what I like to call the " Black Hole of media" we went from wireless broadband to classic dial-up and Directv with Tivo to 4 spotty broadcast networks. with the fall seasons of television here and running I have already missed the premiers of House and The Office I did soldier through the blur and cut outs of Bones for one episode before I almost cried the other half is I disabled my iPod to tranfer music to my new computer only to find out I don't have enough memory to store my music and movies on so I've been going slowly into withdrawl about that aspect but even our dvds have been put into "Long-Term storage" until we get a job somewhere even my books which I so loved have been shut away to be stuffed in a warehouse somewhere until some future day when I can open it up and it will be like Christmas! So I've had a lot of extra time to study for those four classes at the high school but somehow it doesn't seem enough.

Unbelievable

Being home schooled from forth grad (whoops) I've had an interesting view of education. But just recently I was enrolled at the Camas High School for 4 class periods in which I was told were to be used towards the furthering of my education, but I quickly found out that was not the case for most students there. Within about 3 days I found myself with a referral and an explanation why that made no sense (apparently it's a violation to finish my lunch early and wait for my next class in the locker bay nearby). I'm suprised I don't get frisked every time I walk through the door. but the other day I was waiting after my classes for an after school assembly and decided to go see some friends in the commons between classes but as I moved through the mob of juniors looking for the small freshmen group near the center I bumped into someone, this someone turned and started smacking my backpack swearing at me between insults, I slowly turned half amused and half in shock at the reaction to such an inevitable thing as the young man started swearing at me some more daring me to touch him again I very nearly hit the guy but thought of the referral already blemishing my permanent record so I just turned away to talk to my friend and heard him and his friends swearing about the exchange behind me. After the five minute passing time I returned to my seat near the library thought about the not so slow decline of behavior in the public school system and continued the homework I had started earlier and proceded with my day with new found pity upon all those associated with the young man in the commons.
